A TOTALLY NEW SENSE OF BODY BY CHAD COOMBS

CHAD COOMBS

Since his early age Chad Choombs (Saskatoon, Canada) was interested in art and started to paint, but he was really able to express his artistry only later, thanks to the discovery of photography as an artistic medium.

Marvellously inspired by both Richard Avedon's and Irving Penn's work, each Coomb's photographic series attempts to shake up the viewer and it's conceived as the ideal starting point for the birth of new questions and feelings.

The series Bodies raised from the artist's need to produce portraits and images without compromising any kind of privacy issue. Choombs approaches each body as if was a clay sculpture, desiring "to take the bodies in their rawest and most natural form, stripping it away of everything and re-create it as something new", establishing a relationship based on collaboration and dialogue with the sitter.

The result is a majestic collection of anonymous abstract nudes, whose sexuality had been mystified, whose identity had been hidden, to let them bring out something completely new, something abstract and beautiful, to allow the viewer to review the reality, through the reconsideration of the concept of body.
