WHEN MINIMALISM MEETS EMOTIONS: AN IMPRESSIVE VOYAGE WITH ALBA GIERTZ

Swedish artist Alba Giertz (Stockholm, Sweden) started working as a photographer at the early age of 10 and had her first exhibition at 14. Giertz studied photography at Kulturama in Stockholm and worked in Paris and Cannes mainly for the magazine La Parisienne. She also has a background in cinema photography, as head of photography at Nordisk Film TV and worked many years on different productions in Swedish television. 2011-2015 due to mental illness and delusions she took a break from photography, but since the summer of 2015 Giertz found her way back and has this time chosen to take a narrower focus in the sub fine art scene where she unapologetically is free to express a darker view. 2015-2016 she's been printed in PAPER Magazine, Noice and Wired UK among others. During the past year Giertz has been given interviews and been featured by countless platforms and magazines.

With precise realism and through sharp observations she uniquely captivates transient emotions. Her artistic work is often described as dreamy and dark, filled with passionate mystery.

In the series Alzheimer, Alba Giertz combines a detached and minimalism view with strong emotional contents to create an outstanding and speechless result, as Giertz's explains: "My grandfather is a mathematician who is suffering from Alzheimer's disease. He currently lives part-time in a hospital. It's about his fear, loneliness and loss of control. I've chosen minimalism as a visual language trying to express his claustrophobic, blank state of mind. What happens when you can't trust your instincts anymore? These quotes are his own words."

"IT'S BEEN LIKE A DESERT HERE."
"I NEVER THOUGHT ANYONE WOULD EVER COME VISIT ME AGAIN."
"THERE IS A THREAD BETWEEN YOU AND MY PAST."
"I ALWAYS SUSPECT THAT I'VE HURT SOMEONE."
"TIME STOPS TO HAVE A FUNCTION AND THE NOW CEASES TO EXIST ."
"A DEVIL IN MY HEAD SHUTS EVERYTHING DOWN."
